The International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) brings together more than 100 Humanist organizations from 40 countries, and is working with new groups in more than a dozen additional countries. The work of starting and developing Humanist groups is supported by the IHEU Growth and Development Fund.

IHEU works to grow and develop Humanist groups across the globe by:

• Promoting IHEU around the world so that an ever-greater number of people learn of the Humanist alternative;
• Keeping a directory of Humanist groups and individuals who want groups;
• Connecting Humanists who make contact;
• Employing representatives to stimulate and coordinate activity;
• Sponsoring regional conferences to share ideas and foster cooperation;
• Sending experts to speak at meetings and help organizational planning;
• Providing leadership training for national and local leaders;
• Sharing knowledge and relevant experiences from other Humanist organizations;
• Giving financial grants to support infrastructure and projects.

IHEU’s regional representatives play a vital role in this growth and development work by providing expertise, leadership and continuity. IHEU currently has representatives in East Africa, North America, South Asia and West Africa.

Many new groups are starting in difficult, sometimes hostile, conditions. The good news is that a small amount of financial support can often make a huge difference to a fledgling group. IHEU’s Growth and Development Fund was established by a generous donation of GBP 25,000, but it needs additional donations if we are to rise to the challenge of making Humanism a global movement available to all members of the human family.
